With processor speeds of up to 600 MHz, USB 2.0 OTG, PCI-Express, SATA, Gigabit Ethernet, security, NAND Flash interfaces, and low power dissipation, the AppliedMicro APM8018x embedded processor targets embedded applications that require low power and a small footprint. It features a PowerPC 405 processor core built in a 65nm low-power CMOS process with a five-stage pipeline executing up to one instruction per cycle. The family has 128-kbytes of on-chip memory, a 128-bit local bus and on-chip DDR2 SDRAM controller with 16-bit interface.

Processor I/0 is provided by two PCI Express lanes for up to 2.5GB/s per lane, one SATA controller operating up to 3 Gb/s with integrated SERDES, two Ethernet 10/100/1000-Mbit/s full-duplex MACs, TCP/IP acceleration hardware, quality of service, and Jumbo Frame support. An optional Turbo Security engine provides on-chip IPSec acceleration with header/trailer processing, and a USB 2.0 interface with integrated PHY provides Integrated PHY operates at 1.5/12/480 Mbps bus speeds. Typical power consumption ranges from 0.3W typical in standby power mode to 1.5 W at 600 MHz under typical operational conditions. Packaging is a wirebond Plastic BGA, 14x14mm with 0.8 pitch.
