The AppliedMicro APM821x1 family is a high-performance processor family targeting low-power and small form factor applications in consumer network attached storage and wireless access point systems. The family integrates a PowerPC 464 and has CPU clock frequency options of 600MHz, 800MHz and 1GHz. The processor is equipped with a high-performance floating point unit for the delivery of high-quality video content and other media-rich content. The family has 256-kbytes L2/SRAM Cache with parity protection and 32-kbytes of on-chip memory. A high-bandwidth 128-bit processor local bus with 2-way crossbar moves data on chip.

The processor family includes support for high-speed interfaces such as USB 2.0, SATA, GigE and PCIe. Devices include an integrated security engine and NAND Flash support. The APM821x1 family has on-chip RAID 5 acceleration and a turbo security engine with IPSEC/SSL acceleration with header trailer processing, support for DES, 3DES, EAS, ARC-4 encryption, MD-5, SHA-1, SHA-256-hashing and public key accelerator. Typical power dissipation is 0.6W in standby operation and 2.0W when fully operational. Packaging is a ROHS compliant, 18mm x 18mm, 345-ball FBGA.
