The MCF51EM256 targets smart meter applications. The device features a 32-bit ColdFire V1 microcontroller core with multiply accumulate unit. It includes a poly-phase software and hardware reference design for U.S. 110 volt and EMEA/ASIA 234 volt and pre-certified toward popular standards such as International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Four integrated 16-bit SAR ADC modules and a programmable delay block for phase error compensation enable 3-phase energy measurement.

The MCF5222x offers integrated USB On-The-Go and flash memory. It allows two USB devices to communicate without a host interface, making it suitable for system-to-system communication applications. The MCF5223x includes a Fast Ethernet Controller, Ethernet PHY and flash memory in a single device. The MCF5223x also includes the cryptographic acceleration unit, an instruction-level ColdFire co-processor that helps to increase cryptographic algorithm performance.

Freescale offers design and evaluation platforms, such as the M52235EVB and the M52223EVB, for the MCF5222x/3x device families. The company offers the M52221DEMO and the M52233DEMO development platform for the MCF5222x/3x products.

All MCF5222x/3x development systems come with a fully licensed Special Edition of the CodeWarrior Development Studio for ColdFire Architectures. Freescale also offers complimentary TCP/IP and USB stacks for use with the MCF5222x/3x products.

The MCF532x and MCF537x ColdFire device families feature an on-chip USB host module and a USB on-the-go module. Both families are based on the V3 ColdFire core. The MCF532x features an on-chip LCD controller for human machine interfaces. Features include: an EMAC (enhanced multiply accumulate) module and hardware divide, integrated SVGA LCD controller, USB 2.0 full-speed host controller, USB 2.0 full-speed on-the-go controller, 10/100 Fast Ethernet controller, enhanced CAN 2.0B controller, hardware accelerated encryption, and four operation modes to support low-power management.

The MCF547x and MCF548x device families feature a V4e ColdFire core with performance up to 410 Dhrystone 2.1 MIPS at 266 MHz (MCF547x) and 308 Dhrystone 2.1 MIPS at 200 MHz (MCF548x). The MCF547x / MCF548x families integrate up to two 10/100 Ethernet controllers, optional USB 2.0 high-speed device with integrated PHY, and a 32-bit v2.2 PCI interface. They also include 32-kbytes of on-chip SRAM, a 16-channel DMA controller, four 32-bit timers, two 32-bit slice timers, one watchdog timer, four programmable serial controllers (UART, USART, IrDA and modem capability), two CAN 2.0B (MCF548x), and optional hardware-accelerated encryption (DES, 3DES, RC4, AES, MD5, SHA-1, RNG). The MCF547x/8x Family benefits from development platforms such as the M5475EVBE and development tools from Green Hills Software, and Wind River Systems.

The MCF5221x family implements USB 2.0 Full-speed Host/Device OTG with an integrated USB transceiver. The MCF5221x family offers a migration to other higher performance ColdFire devices with USB connectivity. Additional MCF5221x product features include a ColdFire V2 core, up to 128-kbytes of flash memory, 16-kbytes of SRAM, and up to 56 general-purpose I/O. DMA support includes four-channel 32-bit timers, and there is a 12-bit ADC. These devices are available in 66 MHz and 80 MHz options.

The M52211EVB is a full featured development systems based on the MCF52211. The M52210DEMO is a cost effective development platform for the MCF5221x. All MCF5221x development systems come with a fully licensed Special Edition of the CodeWarrior Development Studio for ColdFire Architectures. Freescale also offers a complimentary USB stack for use with the MCF5222x/3x products. Other software tools and operating systems are available through partnerships, such as with Green Hills Software, Mentor Graphics, and Wind River.

The MCF5253 is an embedded control solution with Hi-Speed USB OTG and an integrated USB PHY. It features 128-kbytes of SRAM for single-cycle access to critical data or control functions. The MCF5253 also includes an enhanced multiply/accumulate (eMAC) module with a ColdFire V2 core, and a six-channel 12-bit A/D converter
