Freescale Semiconductor MPC8541E Block Diagram

The MPC8541 PowerQUICC III targets wired and wireless communications and imaging applications, such as enterprise routers and switches, printing and imaging systems, telecommunications systems, wireless infrastructure, and storage systems. The MPC8541E processor is a high-performance integrated communications processor. A key feature of the MPC8541E is an integrated security engine designed to support a variety of algorithms, public key, and a random number generator. The integrated security engine makes the MPC8541E suitable for applications, such as VPN and firewall routers, that require high-performance encryption acceleration. Other key features include the e500 core built on Power Architecture technology running up to 1 GHz, 256-kbytes L2 cache, dual 10/100/1000 Ethernet controllers, two 10/100 Ethernet controllers, a DDR memory controller, a 32/64-bit PCI controller, a 4-channel DMA, a multi-channel interrupt controller, and a DUART serial interface. The MPC8541E supports clock rates from 533 MHz to 1 GHz. Versions with or without the security engine are available. Extended temperature (-40 to 105C) is available at 667 MHz.

PowerQUICC III processors are supported by CodeWarrior development tools from Freescale and by an ecosystem of development tools, operating systems, and applications from third-party vendors. The MPC8555CDS development system and CWH-PPC-8555N-VX QUICCstart development system are available for the MPC8541E.
